The beginnings of Bamberg basketball go back a long way. In 1953, Bert Peßler taught Bamberg students the basics of basketball. Two years later, the city’s first basketball department was founded at 1. FC Bamberg. Promotion to the Bundesliga followed in 1970. Since then, Bamberg has belonged uninterruptedly to either the first or at least the second league.

However, fans had to wait more than two decades for the first title. In 1992, the first cup victory was achieved, which was to be followed by five more (2010-2012, 2017, 2019). In 2005, GHP Bamberg won the German championship for the first time. Eight more titles followed in the following years. Especially from 2010 onwards, the now Brose Baskets were the measure of all things in basketball in Germany. Three times, the squad from „Freak City“ achieved the so-called double, i.e. winning the cup and the championship. Since they did it three times in a row (2010-2012), it was called the „threepeat“.

Since 2001, Brose Bamberg has played its home games mainly in the BROSE ARENA, which has been renamed several times. Since the renovation of the hall in 2006, it has a capacity of 6,150 spectators for basketball games and has, among other things, a large business area and nine business boxes. Before the construction of the BROSE ARENA (formerly Forum Bamberg, Jako Arena or Stechert Arena), the team played in the John F. Kennedy Hall on the grounds of the US barracks in Bamberg and later in the Graf Stauffenberg Hall.
